PrimeTime Children Really a Group of "Champions"

The PrimeTime(r) group meets in a small elementary school in Brinnon, WA, south of Seattle. There are 43 children registered and about 28 attend each week. They may seem small, but their vision is big: they call themselves "Champions".

The program, now in its 4th year, is a ministry of the Brinnon Community Church. The 15 volunteer PrimeTime leaders all see PrimeTime as an evangelistic outreach. "We all continue to remain faithful to the ministry of PrimeTime because we want the children who attend  Champions to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and be witnesses to their parents, relatives and others", they said.

Their program is similar to the approximately 85 other PrimeTime programs runnning around the country. They play games, have a snack, sing lively songs and learn about God's Good News in the Bible. It's always a full, fun and fruitful time.

Sharing "Problems and Praises"

One recent week, the children memorized Psalm 119:11 ("I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.") and recited it for the staff. They also learned a song about the fruit of the Spirit. They shared their "problems and praises" and were prayed with by the volunteer counselors.

The PrimeTime leaders observed that the faith of the children is evident in their prayer requests. "These kids truly believe, as well they should, that God will help, heal, and protect them, their loved ones, friends and others", they said.

Children Grow and Learn

From the outside, it might seem that this is just another group of children meeting after school for some fun and learning. But that's only a small part of what goes on in this or any PrimeTime. Children do have fun and they do learn. But they learn to read the Bible, pray and grow in their faith, too.

The Brinnon PrimeTime leaders feel strongly that, "Each child's growth in the areas of respect, compassion and faith shouldn't surprise any of us. Four years ago God began a new ministry in Brinnon and He has been overseeing it and our Champions ever since." As God works in them, these children are truly living up to their name: Champions!
